Jobless Claims Higher Than Expected
November 6, 2008
Pages: 1
The article speaks about American citizens in general. The problem with citizens now is that a lot of them are filing for unemployment insurance and the number is steadily rising. The US Department of Labor reported that the levels rose almost as high as the level reached after 9/11. This isn't only occurring in one area, it's generally all over U.S. and no state is left out as the jobless claims rise. Obviously this is occurring almost everyday but as of November 1st, levels for jobless claims were higher than even expected. This is a result of a few factors like the struggling economy, businesses not having enough money to cover all their employees, or people being laid off. Many things play a role in why a lot of Americans are now filing for unemployment insurance.
I feel that this is an on going problem and may continue to grow. The economy is currently struggling and who knows how better it'll get. Unfortunately a lot of people may be left hanging without jobs and may not be able to do much about it until something comes along and changes it. I think this is more of the affects of the economy rather than it affecting the economy. The economy is basically at fault here from the unemployment rate being so high and having the rate continue to climb up.

Economics in Marketing Response
The way I think of it is that in the short term effect, with the government intervening with these industries, they may get back on their feet and start where they left off before but that may not last too long and it might not even work for all of the industries that fell. In the long run, having the government take money and try to create bail-out plans and own industries, may affect us because of the money we would have to pay back as taxpayers.
